Children’s Board Books

May 29, 2009

Although I am not fond of board books because they fall apart so easily, they do serve a useful purpose. They give babies the opportunity to touch, analyze and even put the book in their mouths without ruining expensive hardback books or ripping nice paperbooks.

I recommend two bright, colorful touch and feel board books featuring baby animals and shapes. Little ones love the silky, fluffy, and smooth textures featured in these books.

He reached over to his cousin, Spencer, and whispered, “I would like to take her on a date.” Spencer smiled and starting laughing. Brogan asked, “What is so funny?” “That is your second cousin,” Spencer said.

Jedi Braid

May 26, 2009

A couple of months ago, Tyler announced that he was going to grow a Jedi braid. I didn’t pay attention to him because he often says off-the-wall things. I noticed his hair was getting pretty long and mentioned it was time for a haircut. This past weekend, he surpised me, not pleasingly surprised me, by braiding a bit of his hair on his left side and proudly showing everyone his new Jedi braid. I asked him why a Jedi braid is so cool. He quickly made his point by asking me, “Why is American Idol so cool?” He totally caught me off guard because I really like American Idol so I dropped the subject and didn’t say anything.

On one of the first days of class, the professor singled my daughter, Alixandria, out and asked, “If you could meet ANYONE in the whole world, who would you want to meet?” When he asked this question to previous students, they answered with some famous person’s name, but the first thing that popped into Alixandria’s head was her future husband.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the funniest mom story contest.

Congratulations to Melissa Neilson for submitting the following story, and winning a free Silky Blanket by Mama Crane .

Our family recently went on a trip to Iowa to help take care of my sister-in-law Erika who was very ill in the hospital. On the trip most of my family got the cold that my brother, Taylor, brought with him. Savannah who is 5 got an especially high fever. While I was lying down with her, she said. “I guess that Erika and I are the sickest ones in the whole family. I will probably have to go to the hospital too. I laughed and told her that she wouldn’t have to go to the hospital. She paused for a minute and said, “Well, I am probably going to die because I drank the tub water and it had shampoo in it.” I laughed again. “No, you’re not going to die.” “Well, I also tooted in the water before I drank it.” I couldn’t contain my laughter!
