I wish this children’s book would have been around to read to a couple of my children who struggled being away from me in their early years. Twins named Jeremy & Liza learn that we can be together even when we are apart when we are connected by an invisible string full of love. If your child is feeling scared or lonesome when you are away from them, The Invisible String story may be useful therapy to calm your child while you are apart from him/her.

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

I generally favor bright colors, but I found the black and white illustrations in “The Giving Tree” catchy and memorable. Some see the tree as a selfless giver and the boy as a greedy boy who constantly receives and never gives back to the tree. Other readers feel that despite getting nothing in return for a long, long time, the tree puts the boy’s needs first and gives all that he has to the boy because she loves him; then the boy grows up and finally reciprocates his love back to the tree.
