Blogging Instead of Writing a Book

August 21, 2009

Awhile ago, on a flight to Chicago, I met a friendly Jewish couple. I enjoyed visiting with them and learning about their family of one child and one grandchild. They were very fascinated with the large family I come from….my parents have 45 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. The husband told me that I needed to write a book about my BIG family because there were fabulous stories waiting to be told. I told him that I wasn’t a writer, but he insisted that anyone can write if they consistently write down thoughts and ideas for one hour a day. I’m not convinced of that, but I do think writing down thoughts and recording events is important to do. To me, blogging is less daunting and I like the fact that you can easily add or subtract from a blog anytime plus it is acceptable and even popular to record random thoughts whenever you feel so inclined. So I may not be comfortable with writing a book, but I can express myself on my blog. Hooray, for blogging!

Granddaughter’s First Birthday

August 14, 2009

We have so enjoyed our visit with my son and his little family this past week. Just before they flew home, Brittany and her mom (Grandma Nana) hosted a fun “garden” birthday party for Hallie which was fitting for her because she wore headbands with big colorful flowers most of the time until recently when she decided it is fun to pull them off and play with them.

Nana Romrell and Brittany dressed the birthday girl in a darling garden flower dress, made her a cake ornamented with cute garden flowers, served hamburgers with garden vegetables, and celebrated the party on G & G Romrell’s lovely backyard garden patio. What a splendid garden party! Hallie was so friendly and remained smiley : ) the whole party as she was passed around getting to know aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends with the exception of when her hand got pinched in the high chair. However, when my granddaughter screams she is still so cute! HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY, HALLIE!

Stoker Family Reunion in Idaho

August 13, 2009

It was fun to drive to grandpa’s farm in Idaho to visit with our extended family at the Stoker reunion. This reunion commenced 22 years ago, and this was the first year we have ever had to alter our plans due to cool rainy weather. We were going to play mud football in the morning but it was too cold so we cancelled that activity. After the day warmed up a little, we all enjoyed an afternoon of water sliding in the country 30 miles from the nearest town.

My parent’s posterity continues to prosper and grow…..6 children, 45 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren…….needless to say it was a BIG reunion.

Purse from New York

July 30, 2009

Last summer, my daughter-in-law Brittany, and I spent three days in New York City sight seeing and shopping. I had a desire to find something stylish that would make me feel more youthful, and less dated. We spotted these classy-looking $10 purses, and I habitually grabbed a traditional black one that would mix nicely with my wardrobe, but Brittany grabbed a hip and trendy gold one. ”I really like this one”, she said. I liked it too, but the practical side of me was screaming, “Black is more practical!” I spoke to my inner self, “Don’t be practical….you’re in New York….pick the cool and trendy one.” I haven’t regretted my choice! Every time someone tells they like my purse, I am so pleased that I chose the chic gold one. By the way, I have received more compliments on this purse than all my prior purse choices combined. Maybe I ought to go shopping with Brittany more often.

Zucchini Cake

July 28, 2009

We are getting lots of zucchini from our garden, and I have been making a lot of zucchini bread, but my family wanted me to make somthing different with the abundance of garden-grown zucchini.

I took some zucchini to our next door neighbor who gave me this yummy zucchini cake recipe. I did a Google search to see if this recipe was on the web. A long list of zucchini cake recipes came up, but I couldn’t find this particular one so I thought I would share it on my blog.
